Picaro del Aguila Ribera del Duero 2017

Picaro del Aguila Ribera del Duero 2017

£27.00

Picaro del Aguila is from Ribera del Duero in Spain, a small region close to famous Rioja. Run by Jorge and Isabel, where they farm organically and grow mostly Tempranillo from vines many of up to 100 years old along with a few other varieties. Jorge studied viticulture in Bordeaux and Burgundy and has worked a legendary producers Domaine de la Romanee-Conti and Vega Sicilia which I can safely say must have left a mark on his style of wine production. These wines are seriously good, and although are not exactly everyday wines, actually present very good value.

Country: Spain
Region: Ribera del Duero
Grape: Tempranillo, Garnacha, Bobal, Blanca del País

The organic fruit is all hand-picked, and then foot trodden during fermentation. The wine is a blend of mostly Tempranillo with some Garnacha and Bobal. Due to it's high altitude some 800 meters above sea level, although still full bodied, this has a more fresh and vibrant edge than many typically found in Ribera del Duero.
